Informazioni generali

Brindle coat colour is recognized by vertical stripes on the coat with a change in texture along the neck, back, hindquarters and upper legs. Furthermore it may show a change in pigmentation. This phenotype, called brindle 1 (BR1), can occur on any colour background and shows seasonal changes.

Caratteristiche cliniche

The BR1 phenotype can appear with coat texture changes or with striped pigmentation in mares. Stallions have sparse manes and tails but no texture pattern.

Informazioni aggiuntive

The BR1 phenotype is X-linked semi-dominant which means that mares with one affected allele have the brindle phenotype compared to mares with two affected alleles which have spares manes and tails but no striped coat texture pattern. Stallions have one X chromosome and are therefore similar to the mares with two affected alleles.
