Informazioni generali
Ventricular Arrhythmia is a cardiac disorder involving abnormal heart rhythms, which can potentially result in heart failure and sudden death. This particular form of the disease, occurring in the Rhodesian Ridgeback, has been linked to a mutation to the gene QIL1.
Caratteristiche cliniche
Signs of arrhythmia in dogs can be weakness and fatigue, coughing, shortness of breath, fainting episodes and pale gums.
Three different forms of arrhythmia are associated with this mutation: second degree atrioventricular block, sinus rhythm with supraventricular tachycardia, and sinus rhythm with ventricular premature complexes.
The arrhythmia can potentially result in sudden cardiac arrest and death.
Informazioni aggiuntive
The mutation in this test should be considered a risk factor. It is associated with the disorder, but does not necessarily guarantee it.
The inheritance of this mutation is not yet known. Autosomal recessive pattern is proposed, although autosomal dominant with incomplete penetrance cannot be ruled out.
