Osteochondrodysplasia (OCD) is a form of skeletal dwarfism. Affected dogs have abnormally short legs but a normal sized body due to abnormal fetal skeletal maturation. This variant of the disorder is caused by a recessive mutation to the SLC13A1 gene.
Caratteristiche cliniche
I cuccioli colpiti sviluppano presto arti posteriori rapiti (splayed), articolazioni allargate, gabbie toraciche appiattite, ossa lunghe accorciate e piegate e zampe deformate che assomigliano al piede torto. La rigidità delle articolazioni è molto grave nei cani giovani colpiti ma diminuisce con l'età. La mobilità rimane limitata e l'artrite è una conseguenza comune.
